I am ashamed to be an Indian after this.

I dont believe in the logic of reservation. If reservation has existed for 50 years and has as yet not brough about equality, when is this new reservation going to bring about equality. And equality meaning what, that everyone comes to the lowest common denominator. Why the hell am I to blame for the so called crimes of my forefathers (the only known crime my grand father committed was to be a poor Headmaster of a rural high school in southern TamilNadu and give poor children an education, sometimes for free because they could not afford to pay 10-15Rs as tuition fees).

Not all FCs are rich. We have been given no historic advantages. And not OBCs are poor. Simple logic is this OBCs want reservation to help the poor downtrodden masses. What the hell is reservation in tertiary education going to do for the poor downtrodden masses when they dont have access to good primary and secondary education. And hey the rich kid from madras/ bombay / any urban area is considered disadvantaged because he is an OBC. What kind of fairness is this. What kind of equality is this.

We are spreading populism in the name of democracy and spreading it around. The politicians in India are pretty much using the same arguements Hitler used against the jews in germany, and Mahathir used in Malaysia against the Chinese in Malaysia (that the FCs are privileged, that the FCs are getting an unfair advantage). I was taught when I was young that India was a free country and that I was an equal citizen (just how equal I realized when applying for universities). I though that statements such as equal were a tad unrealistic in India, now I know they are a farce.

I am ashamed to call myself a citizen of this country.

For heavens sake please never visit the Night Safari (atleast not with my mom / any mom in tow). It is mind numbingly boring with the star of the night being the water buffaloes. The animals are hardly visible and the tram ride is a waste of time (the walking trails are definitely better).

Most importantly if you have family visting (who have heard a lot about singapore incl. the fact that we are THE place to buy knee pain balm, umbrellas and sareers; not to mention that gold is supposedly bought by the kilo) and they want to see everything, then get the combined ticket to the Bird Park, the Zoo and the Night Safari all for S$35 per person.

My mom decided that singapore was supposed to be the meeca for cheap yet exquisite quality sareers. That she could buy all her colleagues branded watches for a song, and that gold would be $5 a gram (its closer to $35). Plus my mom wants to make full use of the weekend (cos I am working during the week).

I dont believe that I am saying this.. I am actually looking forward to the working week.
